PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear SBBA Members:

Happy New Year!  Well obviously we had a few clichés this month between the newsletter and the speaker for this months meeting.  All I can say is that’s life isn’t it, always moving, changing and always challenging but its how you choose to handle it that makes the difference.  So my wish for all of us is that we can take one moment at a time, breathe, one situation/problem at a time, breathe again and choose to respond positively and confidently as to not become stressed, overwhelmed, short tempered and just no good.  I do believe that multi-tasking is not always good. Remember slow down, take time and just keep swimming.  This is a busy time for everyone.

FYI effective February 1, 2005 the lunch will be $11.50.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Loren

SECRETARY'S MINUTES

The December meeting of the Santa Barbara Bookkeepers' Association was a Holiday Party held on December 7, 2004, at 11:30 am at Stella Mare's Events Center.

Joan Gerhardt, one of the co-producers of the party, announced that there were gifts at each place setting for those attending.  The Gift Exchange for the people participating was held at desert time.  Gifts that were donated to go to Christmas Unity were collected on a table.

President Jennifer Loren welcomed everyone and extended Holiday Greetings.  She thanked Joan Gerhardt and Lynne Klinkenberg for organizing the party.

Helene O'Connor gave everyone a hand painted papyrus card with an authentic Egyptian scene that is made by her company. These cards may be framed or used to send a note.

Guests were introduced.

Job announcements were made.

Our Webmaster, Caron Garliepp, was thanked for her fine work.

Since we were under budget for the party, we voted to give $200 to Christmas Unity.

Best Wishes for a Healthy Holiday to everyone!

IMA Invites SBBA to Dinner

The Santa Barbara Chapter of the IMA (Institute of Management Accountants) invites anyone interested from the S.B. Bookkeepers' Assoc. to join us at a dinner meeting at 5:30 PM on Wed. Feb. 9, 2005 at the Stella Mare Event Center at 3302 McCaw Ave. for $50/person. There is a dinner choice of chicken, salmon, or vegetarian. To RSVP, contact Chris Frohling at 963-9532 or cmf@penfieldsmith.com by Tues. 2/1/05. The speaker is Yagev Ben Itzhak, Pres. and Professional Director, of the renowned Adizes Institute in Montecito who will talk about "Creating and Maintaining Constructive Conflict". Conflict is not only natural, but it is necessary and desirable. However, it is important to distinguish between constructive and destructive conflict, and to learn how to create an environment in which the conflict is productive. In this session, the role of mutual trust and respect will be explored as an avenue to creating constructive conflict, and the concepts of organizational synergy and symbiosis will be presented.
